The common goal of this co-operation is to update and specialise the knowledge of Engineers in the biomass utilisation, an efficient renewable energy source (bioenergy), the solid biofuels as natural and environment-friendly fuels and to present the modern applications for power generation and energetic autonomy of households, businesses and production units. The co-operation involves information activities, such as the common organisation of conferences and seminars aiming to educate and familiarise Engineers with biomass-bioenergy, biofuels and their applications to residences, businesses and factories.
More specifically, it is planned within September 2012 to hold a conference concerning “Biomass, utilisation and opportunities which presents for employment and the economy”.
Furthermore, GWEA/EDEM and Modern Fuels are expected to organise in common seminars under the title “The role of biomass in Energy Generation-Modern Applications”. The seminars aim at informing Engineers about biomass, solid biofuels, biomass burning systems, the latest applications into the modern way of life, as well as the employment opportunities opening up for Engineers into fields associated with biomass utilisation.
Solid biomass fuels are explicitly included since November 2011 into allowable fuels for all country regions according to Joint Ministerial Decision (KYA in greek) about ‘Regulation of issues relating to the operation of stationary combustion burning systems for heating buildings and sanitary water’ . Likewise, biomass burning systems are eligible under funding program ‘SPARE’ (EXIKONOMO in greek).
The seminars are going to be held during afternoon hours under the auspices of GWEA/EDEM with presenters Engineers and Εxecutives of Modern Fuels. Participation is free of charge, it is necessary though to reserve places in advance, as each session is addressed to a limited number of participants. Each participant will receive an attendance certificate. The first round of seminars is scheduled for months September-October 2012.
More information about the exact dates and times to conduct the first round of seminars, as well as call for participation will be announced soon through the website of GWEA/EDEM. Also by GWEA/EDEM will be announced soon and the program of the conference on biomass and bioenergy.
The above courses of GWEA/EDEM are addressed primarily to Women Engineers, as Women are the first victims of the crisis and unemployment, but it is open, like all manifestations of GWEA/EDEM, to all fellow engineers who wish to attend.
GWEA/EDEM wishes to thank Modern Fuels for this cooperation and its annual sponsorship program underlying the implementation of these actions aiming ultimately at activating the Engineers in the areas of sustainable development and innovation.
